Mission PDF Print E-mail

Anchor Church exists to glorify the Father by making disciples who know, love, and serve Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit.

1. We are to glorify God.

  • "Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him forever." [Westminster Shorter Catechism]
  • "Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."
    [1 Corinthians 10:31]
  • Our duty as a church is to delight in God.
  • The essence of what it means to love God is to be satisfied with Him.
  • The enjoyment of God glorifies His worth most fully.

2. We glorify God by making disciples.

  • "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." [Matthew 28:19-20]
  • A disciple must KNOW Christ.
  • A disciple must LOVE Christ.
  • A disciple must SERVE Christ.

3. In the power of the Holy Spirit.

  • "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. [John 15:5]
  • The vine is Christ.
  • I am the branch.
  • The Holy Spirit is the sap that runs from the vine into the branch.
  • The branch lives, grows, and bears fruit not by struggles and effort by simply by abiding.
  • "Without the Spirit of God we can do nothing. We are as ships without wind or chariots without steeds. Like branches without sap, we are withered. Like coals without fire, we are useless." [Charles Spurgeon]

Beliefs PDF Print E-mail

We believe that God has raised up Anchor to be a standard of godliness in a time of darkness. Therefore it is essential that we live under the authority of God's Word in our personal lives, our families, and in our church corporately.

Anchor Church affirms the 2000 "Baptist Faith and Message" doctrinal statement with one exception found on page 13 in the middle of the page: Each congregation operates “through democratic processes”. We believe that each body of believers operates under a plurality of elder leadership.

  • In essential beliefs - we have unity.
    • "There is one Body and one Spirit...there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of us all..." [Ephesians 4:4-6]
  • In non-essential beliefs - we have liberty.
    • "Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters...Who are you to judge someone else's servant? To his own master he stands or falls... So then each of us will give an account of himself to God... So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God." [Romans 14:1, 4, 12, 22]
  • In all our beliefs - we show love.
    • "... if I hold in my mind not only all human knowledge but also the very secrets of God, and if I have the faith that can move mountains - but have not love, I amount to nothing at all." [I Corinthians 13:2]

History PDF Print E-mail

Anchor Church began as a home Bible study led by Micky Mayfield and Larry Black in the winter of 1997 with three families.  Core group worship services began on Easter Sunday, March 30, 1997, led by our founding pastor, Steve Hammack, and were held in the McConnell Middle School.  Anchor moved into its present facility in September 1999.

Membership PDF Print E-mail

Covenant Membership

We believe in covenant membership because our God is a covenant God. A covenant is like a treaty; it established the terms of relationship between two parties. There were covenants in the Old Testament between God and man (Noah after the flood), and between man and man (Jacob and Laban, marriage covenant). The New Covenant, or testament, is pictured in Hebrews 8:6-13. We believe a covenant is the most suitable vehicle in our culture for defining membership in the church.
